Pre-Law Summer Intern joins fl keys law group
Florida Keys Law Group Summer Intern is Shelby Porter.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
“I am from Tavernier, Florida, going into my senior year at FGCU and graduating in Fall of 2022 with a major in Legal Studies and a minor in Creative Writing. I hope to support and work alongside MJK this summer, and I’m excited to be staying in the FL Keys once again throughout the summer, and to be interning with Fl Keys Law Group.
WHERE ARE YOU STUDYING?
I am studying pre-law at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida. I graduated from Coral Shores High School in 2019, where I was part of many clubs and organisations, while using most of my free time to give back to the community through volunteering.
WHAT ABOUT EDUCATIONAL GOALS
I am majoring in legal studies with a minor in creative writing. I spend a lot of time volunteering and working at my part time job at the GAP in Estero, Florida during the Fall and Spring semesters, along with studying every spare second I have. Moving forward, I would love to focus on Family and Juvenile law as I work towards becoming an attorney.
I have always been strong willed and wanted to help whoever I can in whatever way I can. Originally, I wanted to go into social work and help children specifically, however, I had a few very influential teachers in high school help me with the decision to go into law to help more people and make more positive strides. There are so many families, parents, and children who need help, and I plan to go into family and/or juvenile law to provide this help to them.
HOW WILL YOU GET WHERE YOU ARE GOING?
This summer I will be interning at the Florida Keys Law Group and could not be more excited! After researching law firms throughout the upper Keys, I came across this firm and was so intrigued by the fact that the website featured only women. After a call to the office and a conversation with Michelle, I was so excited to be granted this internship for the summer and to learn more while being on site and out of the classroom.
WHEN WILL YOU BEGIN LAW SCHOOL?
I plan to graduate in December with my bachelor’s degree and begin law school the following fall of 2023.”
We are excited to welcome Shelby and even more thrilled she is a Florida Keys born Conch! Returning to her roots. Welcome home. For the summer, and hopefully beyond.
